Mycotoxins

• Large group of toxins produced by some fungi. Located within or on spores.
• Toxic, cancer causing, and suppress the immune system
• Some common toxigenic molds found in water-damaged structures: Penicillium spp, Stachybotrys Chartarum, Aspergillus versicolor, Tricoderma spp.

Types of Infection Caused by Fungi:

Systemic or Primary   Usually caused by inhaled or ingested spores Impacts major body systems Opportunistic   Attacks those with impaired immunological defenses Dermatophytes   Infect skin, hair and nails Nosocomial   Caused by exposure to contaminants during hospitalization
