What a Mold Inspection Should Be
When a customer says “WOW” in a positive context, it is clear that their expectations have been exceeded. I see and hear about examples every day where it is apparent that there are people in our industry that do not know how to do a “mold inspection”. Some people think that a mold inspection is doing mold testing, some think that a mold inspection is using an infrared camera, some think that it is giving an estimate based on a customers diagnosis or what a customer thinks they need, and some think it is an opportunity to sell something whether it is needed or not. If the company you invite in is advocating fogging to remove mold, you know you are dealing with a dishonest company. A mold inspection should be an education. Hopefully you will learn:
- If you have mold or not
- If materials are currently damp
- What the source of the moisture is
- What may need to be corrected to prevent more mold in the future
- What materials are affected
- What the removal and cleanup should consist off
- What engineering controls should be used
- Approximately what the cost should be
- And whether using your insurance is an option
